Wedding Trends 2027: How to Bring Them to Life in Italy

Every year brings new wedding trends. What makes 2027 different is that many of them point in the same direction, and that direction looks a lot like Italy.

Couples planning for 2027 are choosing intimacy over spectacle, meaning over excess, and experiences their guests will remember long after the photos have been shared. These are values Italy has always celebrated: the long table, the golden hour, the pleasure of time spent together.

As a destination wedding planner working across Rome, Tuscany, Puglia, the Amalfi Coast and Lake Como, here is how I see the key 2027 trends, and how they come to life on Italian soil.

The big shift: from “wow” to “ours”

The most important trend of 2027 isn’t a color or a flower. It’s a mindset. Couples no longer want the biggest wedding; they want the one that could only be theirs.

That means smaller, more carefully chosen guest lists, handwritten notes at every seat, menus printed with each guest’s name, and details that tell the couple’s story. Luxury is now measured in what cannot be repeated.

1. The multi-day wedding becomes the standard

For international couples, a destination wedding in 2027 is rarely a single day. A welcome dinner on arrival, the ceremony and celebration, a relaxed farewell brunch: the wedding becomes a shared journey, and guests become fellow travelers.

Italy is made for this format. Picture a welcome aperitivo on a Roman rooftop, a ceremony in a Tuscan villa, and a final lunch among olive trees. We explore this in depth in our article on the Italian wedding weekend.

2. Candlelit dinners under the stars

Long banquet tables, soft linens, hundreds of candles and antique silver candelabras: the 2027 reception is designed to glow as the sun goes down. Lighting is no longer an afterthought but part of the storytelling, shifting the mood from sunset to late night.

Few settings do this better than an Italian summer evening, whether in a vineyard courtyard or on a terrace above the sea.

3. Mediterranean color palettes

Bold, saturated schemes are giving way to palettes drawn from the landscape itself:

  • olive green and sage, echoing vineyards and olive groves;
  • terracotta and dusty rose, the colors of old villages at dusk;
  • champagne and ivory, for soft, luminous elegance;
  • accents of deep red, rich brown and lilac for a more dramatic evening.

In Italy, the venue often provides half the palette before a single flower arrives.

4. Sculptural florals, simpler bouquets

Floral design is becoming architectural: suspended installations, asymmetrical arches, and garden-like arrangements flowing between long tables. Bouquets, meanwhile, are moving the other way, toward monobloom designs with one or two varieties and very little greenery.

Historic villas and cloisters are the perfect backdrop for this approach, where flowers frame the architecture rather than compete with it.

5. Family-style feasts and local flavors

Individually plated menus are giving way to family-style service, shared platters and beautifully curated food stations built around seasonal, local ingredients.

This is simply how Italians eat. A family-style dinner in Puglia or Tuscany turns guests into companions at one table, and a hardbound menu becomes a keepsake they take home.

6. Artisanal stationery

Textured paper, block prints, wax seals and illustrated invitations that tell the couple’s story are replacing flat, minimal suites. For a destination wedding, working with Italian artisans means the experience begins the moment guests open the envelope.

7. Fashion-forward moments

More couples are planning several looks across their celebration: a ceremony gown, a party dress, statement accessories and sharp evening tailoring. Runway details such as ruffles, pleats, feathers and lace even appear on the cake, now more often a sculptural two-tier design than a towering one.

8. Live, surprising entertainment

Experiential entertainment is replacing the standard playlist: a saxophonist playing alongside the DJ, a live singer for the first dance, a musical surprise between courses. The goal is a celebration that keeps unfolding, not a program that simply runs.

  • Rome: historic villas and palazzi for candlelit, architectural elegance.
  • Tuscany: vineyards and estates, ideal for multi-day celebrations and family-style dinners.
  • Puglia: masserie and olive groves, where the Mediterranean palette is already there.
  • Amalfi Coast: sea-view terraces for luminous, relaxed luxury.
